Mafalda Duarte

Mafalda Duarte has a degree in Psychology since 2003 and a Master’s degree in Gerontology from the European Master in Gerontology (EUMAG) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She has taken part in a wide range of modules/courses related to the study of ageing, developed at various European universities, such as the Institute of Gerontology, University of Heidelberg, Germany; Centre for Social Gerontology, Keele, United Kingdom; Centre de Gérontologie Hôpital Sainte Périne, Versailles – Saint – Quentin en Yveslines University, Paris, France; Center for Health Sciences, Tallaght Hospital, Dublin, Ireland; European Centre of Gerontology and Geriatrics, University of Malta, Malta and Center for Research on Health and Aging – Institute for Health Research and Policy, UIC – University of Illinois, Chicago, USA.

She holds a master’s degree in Social Gerontology and a PhD in Geriatrics and Gerontology from the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS – UP) and is the author of the book “Frailty in the Elderly: Models, Measures and Practical Implications”.

She is currently President of ISAVE – Instituto Superior de Saúde and is a member of the Center for Health Technology and Services Research (CINTESIS), where she collaborates on research projects in the field of aging. Her research interests focus on the study of the condition of the frail elderly, the impact of care for the elderly and the creation of proposals for intervention in frailty.
